Consider Your Ways

Good morning, church!

Being mindful that every part of the Bible is given for our instruction and benefit, we’re continuing to study some of the lesser known parts of the Old Testament. Looking at the Book of Haggai, Pastor Bodner brings us a message today entitled “Consider Your Ways.”

Haggai the Prophet

Good morning, church family and community!

In our sermon today, we open to the Old Testament, a part of the Bible many Christians can be guilty of turning to only selectively. The Old Testament is the entire beginning of the story of redemption and underpins all of the New Testament; it’s as vital for us to be familiar with the Old Testament as it is with the New Testament. To that end, Pastor Bodner brings us into one of the lesser known OT books today, the Book of Haggai.

We’ll begin by looking at the book’s context and its place in the history of redemption told in the Bible. We’ll then focus in on the book itself, examining some of its characteristics, features, and details.

Temptation

Good morning, Calvary!

We are drawing towards the end of our series on The Lord’s Prayer. We hope that these messages have helped to deepen your understanding of prayer and its necessity to every part of a Christian’s life.

The first three petitions in this prayer taught by Jesus seek to align our will to God’s. The last three, finishing with “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,” seek our Heavenly Father’s provision and protection for us as we live for His service.

Temptation is a universal experience for we fallen, sin-loving human beings, but for those who serve God, Creator of the universe, there is hope: He promises help to resist and overcome temptation when we seek it (1 Cor 10:13). Praise God for His goodness and grace!

Forgive Us…As We Forgive

Happy Sunday, Calvary!

We turn to the fifth petition of the Lord’s Prayer this morning: “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” As Pastor Bodner explains, forgiveness is core to the Christian’s life in Christ:

“…we seek anew the blessing that lies at the heart of the Gospel we call again and again  for the mercy underlying every saving good which makes our faith ‘good news’ to a lost world.”

The sermon today will explore the point, the principle, the purpose, and the pathway of the plea.

May God bless our meeting together.

Thy Will Be Done

Good morning, Calvary!

It’s our prayer that this time of worship will be a blessing to you.

For a true Christian, prayer is not a ritual, it’s a necessity. It is one of the evidences of true conversion, and the manner in which those who follow Christ should pray was a matter on which Jesus specifically taught. In today’s sermon, Pastor Bodner writes,

Your soul can no more live without prayer than your body can live without breath.  If your inner man is prayerless, it is lifeless! And your claim to be a Christian is a sham, and a shame, for your soul is no better than a corpse!

Studying the teaching of Jesus Christ on prayer has been our subject for several weeks now. Pastor Bodner has been guiding us line by line through John 6:10, best known as the Lord’s Prayer, carefully studying its patterns and nuances so we can better understand the purposes and design of prayer.

Today we examine the next phrase: our high calling (“Thy Will be done”) and our heavenly calling (“Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven”).

May we learn to pray more deeply so we may serve more fully.

Thy Kingdom Come

Let’s worship, Calvary.

As we proceed in our study of the Lord’s prayer, we’ll focus on the next phrase: “Thy kingdom come”, considering the cause to which Christians commit themselves in Jesus Christ, and the concerns for which they care as earthly ambassadors of His heavenly kingdom.

May the Holy Spirit prepare us for worship and to receive God-given instruction.
